A quality framework ensures that things are produced in a consistent way. The Elearning Quality Framework (EQF) provides a set of adaptable criteria to use as the basis of your organisation's or project's own quality framework.
I recommend that you include elements from each of the categories below within your own framework
Please note: This framework is designed for online materials used as a deliberate learning intervention. It would need adapting for performance support materials.
Evaluation
- What is the measurable business need for these materials?
- What difference do you expect them to make?
- What changes do you expect to happen as a result of your materials?
- How will you measure whether or not you have been successful?
- Is your operational environment capable of providing those measurements?
Learning design
- Can you map everything back to the change you want to effect?
- Have you removed everything that isn't supporting that change?
- Is it the right length for the audience?
- Are there opportunities to practice?
- Are there opportunities to meaningfully interact with the content or other people?
Assessment design
- Are all assessments aligned to the change you want to effect?
- Do multiple choice questions contain plausible distractors of similar lengths?
- Are there a range of difficulty levels represented?
- Are the assessments valid? Do they assess what they set out to test?
- Are the assessments reliable? Do they consistently and accurately indicate whether the person has learnt what you intended?
Technical design
- Do pages load within the minimum specified load time, on a representative internet connection?
- Does the correct data flow between the learning materials and the host or data analytics platform?
- Does the content and platform handle internet drop-outs or crashes reliably and without losing data?
- Does the content and the host platform contain the metadata required for it to be organised and found?
- Does the content work when accessed through a firewall or VPN?
Accuracy
- Has the content been checked by one or more subject matter experts for factual errors?
- Is the information current?
- Has a date been set for an update review?
- Does the content meet the requirements of the organisation's writing style guide?
Legal
- Are the materials compliant with your organisation's data protection policy?
- Are the materials compliant with your organisation's intellectual property policy?
- Are the materials compliant with your organisation's privacy policy?
- Do you have the rights to use content such as images?
- Do you have a record of the images and the rights assigned to you?
Accessibility
- Do you have a justifiable accessibility policy for your learning materials?
- Does each page meet the requirements of your accessibility policy?
- Have you tested for use by people with visual, hearing, motor and cognitive disabilities?
- Are the materials usable on the required range of devices and screen sizes?
- Have you written in language suitable for the target audience?
Brand
